Remembering Jimmy Sheehan

Jimmy at Daylesford Abbey

Remembering JIMMY SHEEHAN who died on March 21, 2022, at age 75.     Athlete, Coach, Teacher, Anam Cara, Mentor, Scholar, Sponsor, FRIEND.

Jimmy lived:

Simply: A joyful experience for Jimmy was having lunch with a friend (or a group of friends) at Mary’s Restaurant in Newport;

Or, practicing Centering Prayer at home while petting one of his purring cats.

Generously: Jimmy helped others as he was able… if someone needed a ride, Jimmy, with great conversations, was willing to drive wherever they needed to go, then patiently waited to drive them back;

Once, Jimmy heard a story at a 12 Step Meeting from a man who had found his sobriety in poverty.  He had been living in the woods for 7 years, eating food from dumpsters.  Jimmy invited him to his home and for years to come that man had a place that he too called home.

Gratefully: Jimmy continually sought forgiveness for himself which shaped his awareness that each one of us needs to be forgiven.  Jimmy knew that life was hard.  He learned that love will break you.  But that never stopped him from risking his heart.  He looked for (and found) goodness in every person.  He sat by the apple tree and listened to the apples falling in heaps all around him.  He never wasted their sweetness, tasting as many as he could.
